MOUNT ZION BAPTIST CHURCH

Arlington, VA - 10,000 SF

FORMDesign is proud to be part of the heritage of Mount Zion Baptist church, which heralds it’s roots back to the end of the Civil War where newly freed Christians banded together to worship in Freedman’s Village, located on what is now Arlington National Cemetery. FORMDesign was brought in to alter the original building, which lacked a Narthex to enable congregants to gather before and after services. In designing the narthex, FORMDesign sensitively moved the original stain-glass windows to the renovation, carefully matching the exterior of the original church, so the elements of new and old all function together seamlessly.
